As it stands now, Clear Rivers (Ali Larter), Carter Horton (Kerr Smith), and Alex are the last remaining survivors of Flight 180, but after taking a trip to Paris, their fates are left unknown until Final Destination 2. In the original script, Alex was supposed to die there were multiple moments that are now only fragments in the final cut that were intended to lead to this alternate ending. Throughout Final Destination, there are several instances that foreshadow specific character deaths. Now that he has officially disrupted death's design, each survivor of Flight 180 die in the order they were supposed to on the plane. This leads to him as well as six others to deboard. It follows Alex Browning (Devon Sawa) after he boards Flight 180 when he has a premonition that the plane will explode upon take-off. Horror movies that released in 2000 were some of the genre's best, including Final Destination. What initially started as a spec script for The X-Files quickly transformed into a feature-length movie written by James Wong, Glen Morgan, and Jeffrey Reddick. Had the alternate ending been used as the main ending, Final Destination may have had a great deal of difficulty growing into the major horror movie franchise it is today. There are several reasons why it doesn't work, but it is mostly based in the fact that it alters death's design while adding in elements that are introduced in later installments. An alternate ending to James Wong's Final Destinationcould've completely changed the horror movie franchise and, most likely, not for the better.
